Its main base is at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Indigo airlines is fully vertically integrated aviation company and fully owned, employee and controlled its own aircraft fleet, pilots, dispatches and maintenance services.

Indigo Airlines priced its first service on 4th August 2006 between Delhi to Imphal via Guwahati. This allowed travelers an affordable travel option. The owner of the airline is Inter Globe Enterprises. The delivery of its first Airbus A320 aircraft took place on 28th July 2006, further it received 6 Aircraft within the very same year. Mind more aircraft were delivered in 2007 taking the total to 15 former US Airways. Bruce Ashby, the Executive Vice-President, Marketing and planning joined the Indigo as their Chief Executive Officer. The Airline has also acquired 3 parking spots in Indira Gandhi International Airport and Chattarpati Shivaji International Airport.

Being a low cost carrier, Indigo flights does not offer a complimentary meal service to its passengers. However it does offer a buy-on-board done service where items such as sandwiches, nuts and soft drinks can be purchased.

Consumer response to Indigo is strong due to its competitive fares in domestic aviation industry. It is mainly concerned with the customer satisfaction as it aims to give the best than the rest, and due to this very particular reason Indigo was awarded the title of 'Best Domestic Low Cost Carrier' in India for 2008.

Indigo has been adding flights and destinations continuously to its arsenal in the past few years. In the coming years Indigo Airlines frequency and flight destinations are likely to increase.
